Dolce far niente

I spent most of yesterday with my head and my much abused legs (all that standing  two days running and most of NYE didn't agree with them) propped up on cushions on the sofa, reading this book. I had read over half of it before some unprincipled individual knicked it from a hotel we were staying in in Quito, Ecuador three years ago, and have only just replaced it. So I started again from scratch and am finding it just as fascinating as the first time. I had not realized that it is a novel - previously, I really believed it was the geisha's memoirs, as dictated by her.

The first of our guests left this morning, and her brother leaves tonight - we have greatly enjoyed having them here.

Once I get blip up to date, I'm going right back down there to finish the book. I'm not used to not having work to get on with (well hardly any, although of course there are plenty of other boring chores I should be dealing with) - it could be very easy to get used to a life of ease, methinks.
