A New Year
Happy New Year folks! It's 2015!
I can't say I'm that impressed with it so far, cold windy and wet, doesn't look much different from 2014!
I stayed in and had a lazy day in front of the TV. I even watched "The Wizard of Oz", which I enjoyed more than I expected, it's been years since I bothered watching it.
Instead of the traditional Steak pie I decided to go for something a bit different for my New Years Day dinner. I had roast venison.
I sealed a venison steak in a shallow pan with butter and then glazed it with honey and redcurrant jelly before putting it in the oven to roast.
To accompany it I fried some bacon pieces in the same pan, added chopped onion, garlic and tomatoes. After that had fried for a few minutes I added some redcurrant jelly and Eden Brewery "Oak Aged Whisky Barrel" beer (which is a quite sweet Scotch Ale). And of coarse some mashed tatties :-). To finish it off I made a whisky and pepper sauce. Even if I say so myself it turned out delicious, I probably cooked the venison too long, it was well done as opposed to pink but it was still very tender.
I'll probably be back to beer & pizza tomorrow :-)
