Although walking around Buxton was difficult because of the frozen pavements, we found it a wonderful town. We had been before, but some years ago. Our rented flat was above a pet shop right in the town's market place - the highest market place in England too! It was a novelty for us to find two mini-supermarkets and a fish & chip shop within a minute or so away, walking slowly, of course! Just along the road is a wonderful second-hand book shop on five floors!
We had lunch in the fabulous Pavilion Gardens, which is backed by the Opera House - we felt young enough to see a performance of 'Jack and the beanstalk' there this evening!
Definitely somewhere to return to - the old thermal baths are now a lovely craft arcade and the university is a very interesting building - here.
