Out with the old

Taking up the old floorboards in order to prepare for putting down parquet floor in the hallway I came across the old upstairs downstairs bell system from when the house was much grander than it is now. Two of the wires go through to next door to confirm that it used to be one house. Didn't they do things well in those days? Nowadays that bellcrank would be a triangle of mild steel with three holes punched in.
