Ta da!!

We did it - we have a Monarch caterpillar!

As far as I can see this is the only one that successfully hatched from the dozen or so eggs that I found.  I first saw it on Monday, but couldn't blip him then because of MonoMonday, and he looked as tiny as a thread of striped cotton.

Now he looks more the size of 2-ply or maybe even 3-ply wool.  I didn't need to use the extension tubes on this image

Now the challenge is to keep him alive.  Tomorrow won't be so bad - it will be 34 degrees but that's livable, even for a tiny caterpillar.  But Friday and Saturday we are looking at 41/42 degrees, so tomorrow morning I'm going to rig up a bit of shade, and make sure the ground is moist.  That should keep the micro-climate cool enough.
