Tree Destruction Tuesday

The public works department in my city is cutting down hundreds of 12-15 year old healthy Live Oak trees in my neigborhood.  Pictured is one tree that was destroyed this afternoon next door to where I live.  Instead of trimming, or repairing sidewalks with root issues, the city leaders, not to mention some of the brilliant minds in my neighborhood thought that this was the most efficient way to take care of any and all tree situations. 

Ironically, just a few days ago, a impaired driver in the middle of the night crashed into one of the trees at high speed, stopping the car from crashing into a house where children were asleep in the front room.  

In most parts of the world, when a city plans a beautification program, they plant trees.
