Bang
Last day of work for five days, and a much needed break. I finished at 4pm, got home, packed and over to Mum’s as soon as possible; immediately changing into my pjs and pouring a G&T. We had a lovely evening chatting and relaxing, and had just got stuck into a Blondie documentary when there was one of the strangest, scariest noises we’d ever heard and a total blackout. Blue flashes were showing through the house, and we were both convinced there had been some huge electrical fault or fire after all the problems we’ve had with Mum’s electrics. After I shouted at Mum not to touch anything, we opened the front door, and found other neighbours coming out of their houses with torches. It turned out the pylon opposite Mum’s house had exploded, and there were showers of sparks and blue light, taking power out in the whole village. All very dramatic. It was reported to National Grid, and after a bit of faffing outside, we came in, lit candles and watched the sparking light-show for a while. Would it be fixed by morning?!
