Godwyns

This is Godwyns Onwuchekwa from Justice for Gay Africans who spoke at this evening's 'Sing with Pride' International Singaround, an event to mark this year's IDAHO (International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia) which is actually on the 17th May.

His message was simple: delivered with passion, sincerity and an element of humour. The thing that stuck in my mind was what he said about overcoming injustice of all kinds not being just about campaigning, demonstrating, lobbying but about being prepared - as individuals - to stand up for what we believe in and not remain silent in the face of injustice.

As usual, the Singaround was great fun with the choir doing a short set then anyone was welcome to lead a song or play music. A couple of our musician friends, Alex and Andy, brought along their 'big bag of percussion' comprising tambourines, shakers, drums so that everyone who wanted to could join in with the musical mayhem. There was also - as usual - cake and a raffle with the proceeds going to Justice for Gay Africans.

The venue for our Singarounds is one of the oldest buildings in Norwich - Jurnett's Bar - and has a fantastic ambience.

I even got carried away and played 'I wanna be like you' from The Jungle Book on the uke while several chums bellowed along.
