Sheringham Cliffs just after sunset
Usually just after Christmas I prefer to lie up and retreat into peace and quiet but seeing as we had arranged to meet up with friends for a walk this was not going to happen. Luckily I usually have a good time with this group of friends.
The light along the north Norfolk coast is wonderful at this time of year. The sun traverses a shallow arc across the southern horizon, never climbing all that high in the sky and throwing long shadows even in the middle of the day. Today was almost cloudless.
At the halfway point we stopped at a pub in Weybourne for lunch which we had luckily booked as it was pretty busy and popular. The food was very good and the place friendly and unpretentious. There was also a good selection of beers including several from independent breweries. I felt myself called upon to sample a pint of an amber ale called Moongazer in the public interest. And it was good.
I think we could well have sat there talking until the cows came home but fortunately one of our number pointed out that the sun would soon be going down and we were an hour and a half from home. So out we went into the red gold light and down to the shingle strand where the fishermen were standing with their rods and umbrellas looking out to sea.
For anyone interested, this image was taken with my little point and shoot Canon Powershot s95
There were a good few alternates that did not make the final cut but are available on Flickr
