Winter along the canal.
We awoke to another beautiful sunny day.
Only 0C and we still have some snow, and ice.
Perfect for a walk along the Calder and Hebble Navigation canal, from Brighouse to Elland.
Stopped at the Cromwell Bottom Nature Reserve, for coffee and Christmas cake. ( brought in the rucksack)
Which is where I took the photo of the jay.
We spotted the young swan, all alone on the canal on our way back.
Where the sun's rays shone, the snow was melting, and it was much easier walking back ,as the ice on the path had melted too.
We called at the fish shop on the way back, and ate them sat outside at the water's edge. Managed to avoid the sea gulls which by then were swooping down!
Called at Sainsbury's for some vegetables, cream and milk etc. as our youngest son and family are coming for a meal tomorrow, and unfortunately our local farm shops don't open again until Tuesday.
( Did manage to get a bag of potatoes for 20p instead of £1,80! Perfectly OK.although the sell by date says 28th Dec. They will certainly last a lot longer.)
Now the sun has gone down it is coming cold again.
So the fire is about to be lit, and it is turkey stew and dumplings for tea.
That should keep us warm!
