Imber
Spotting a message on Twitter this morning had us heading down to Salisbury Plain to visit the village of Imber. This is one of the abandoned villages which was evacuated in the Second World War to allow troops to train for D-Day but never relinquished by the MOD. On a few days in the year the church is open to the public and some of the houses can be explored (if you ignore the "no public access" signs). A lot of the houses in the village have been replaced with breeze block constructions and all of the roofs are modern corrugated iron. However the old village pub is still standing along with a farmhouse and some 1930s housing. The village is open until the 5th Jan and well worth a visit if you have time. More details here
