Colinton Graveyard, Edinburgh

A dry but cold day with mist closing in later in the afternoon.

A nice quiet morning, then the obligatory Turkey sandwiches for lunch. Afterwards, we went for a walk around the Water of Leith at Colinton village. The river was in full flow and looked good though it was a bit dark for photos, since it is a steep valley at this point. Colinton Parish Church is very active in the community and is famous because, as a boy, Robert Louis Stevenson frequently visited the Manse, where his maternal grandfather, Dr Lewis Balfour, lived while he was the Minister of the Parish Church. A bronze statue of Robert Louis Stevenson as a boy with his Skye terrier "Coolin" was unveiled in the small garden just outside the  Church gate on 26th October 2013. However, I was fascinated by the nearby Graveyard. The frost was forming hard on the grass, the cold mist was swirling in and the effect on the headstones, obelisks, evergreen trees and the tall, leafless trees was quite remarkable. I doubt if Burke and Hare visited here but I am sure they would have been glad of such a setting to cover their nefarious grave digging.
