We are having an unconventional Christmas this year. My sister in law is visiting, so we decided to take a trip to the glacier lake, Jökulsárlón, since she has never seen it. It is about 400 km from Reykjavik, but with the bad weather and low speed limit, we decided to make it worthwhile and spend 2 nights at a hotel close to the lake.
The weather was good at first, but after a few hours it started to snow. We finally reached our destination and found that we had been upgraded to a 2 bedroom cottage with a big kitchen, instead of the triple room we booked. The reason was that the hotel´s restaurant was closed because it was Christmas day, and they were afraid we won´t have any food to eat.
We drove past this typical Icelandic church on the way to the hotel.
