Instrument of Pleasure/Torture

How can a music playing device be an instrument of torture I hear you say?  Well if it is playing pop music, the crap used to keep the masses in tow.  Pleasure, well if someone has went out of their way to write, or learn how to play an instrument, possibly both.  I will even listen to Jazz music if someone has put effort into it, not just expecting to be an overnight star.  Some one once told me it was sour grapes, well no, I know I am totally hopeless and have no ear for music, but I roadied, carried the gear that was what I could do.
