Happy Christmas

An early post today as off out to dinner then travelling to see my Mum this afternoon. Hope everyone has a wonderful day.

The picture was taken in Waikanae, New Zealand and became my Christmas card this years it seemed only right to share my card with you all.

I also came across this poem posted by Harvey Andrews yesterday and it seemed to fit the stories I have been telling over th past few days. Thanks for reading and commenting.

By the way for those that don't know him Harvey Andrews is a folk singer from Hull who has been making songs since the 1970s. I saw him when I was a student and have enjoyed his music every since though he does not tour anyone. These are his words:

Here they are let's let them in
Our ghosts of Christmas past
The memories we've tucked away
From times we thought would last
The pillowcase that's on the bed
With presents large and small
From faces that we loved so well
Let's smile and greet them all

We've tried so hard to stay awake
We've wished away the night
Until the time we open up
The packages so bright
Here's Robin Hood, Lord Snooty
And Dan Dare and Superman
A plane to make, a game to play
more socks from dear old Gran

(There is a child inside me still
I can't let out to play
He sleeps the whole year round
And only wakes for Christmas day)

Let's open up the gift box now
Let's eat the sweets inside
The chocolate soldier, sugar mouse
It's so hard to decide
But leave some room, the carving's done
The toast is peace on Earth
A silence then to realise
What absent friends are worth

So here they are at table now
The ones we loved back then
Our uncles, aunts, mom and dad
Safe in the land of when......
When we were young and Christmas joys
Would flash before our eyes
So quickly gone, like all our days
Like all our last goodbyes

Year on year those times recede
Now there's just you and me
The children are too far away
To need our Christmas tree
So draw the blinds, hold me close
Help me put away
These memories of long ago
Until next Christmas Day
