Memories

While it adds a touch of joy to alleviate the stress of last minute Christmas shopping, there were not too many takers for the children’s roundabout in the midst of the market place in Romsey this afternoon.
It was just a tiny market with flower and vegetable stalls and the roundabout to provide relief for the younger children.
I cannot remember such attractions when I was that age, although I do recall taking my own youngsters to local attractions like this, and indeed very much more recently the grandchildren. My recollection is that when I was a small child  roundabouts were part of periodic local pleasure fairs, events, and rare trips to the seaside.
But we are talking about more years ago than I care to remember, but I guarantee I would have no problem of recalling the joys of the chance for a ride on a fairground roundabout.
But then the celebration of Christmas itself has changed, as indeed has the entire world of shopping.
I do know that my grandchildren in particular, and many years before them, their parents would have been clamouring for a ride on a roundabout, so I thought it somewhat surprising there were few takers at least during the time I was in the marketplace this afternoon.

But then perhaps I am being guilty of having nostalgic memories of Christmases of years ago!
