Eeeee!

I was up and about reasonably early (for me on a Sunday) as I had more Xmas shopping to do, I quick stop over at the Stockbridge Market to get a couple things and then headed into town. It wasn't particularly cold but it was quite windy and I started getting very frustrated with all the idiots wandering around town, some people are just idiots! If you MUST stand around chatting in the street, don't stand in the middle of the pavement getting in everybody's way! I managed to get most of my shopping done before my dodgy leg start aching too much and I retreated to the pub. I stopped into "Tiles" on the corner of St Andrew Square, not a pub I frequent too often but it's handy and usually has a couple decent guest ales. I had planned on doing more shopping after a pint but couldn't be bothered so I headed down to "Spit/Fire" a new bar that's just opened up (half way down Dublin Street)..

It's actually two bars, upstairs is "Spit" which concentrates on food and wine, I didn't actually look at their food but from what I understand they'll be specializing on Spit Roast food like chicken and pork. As it's owned by the same people who own "The Hanging Bat" they have a range of interesting craft beers (6 kegs available upstairs). Downstairs is they're second bar "Fire" which specialize on bourbon and cocktails as well as having 12 craft beers on keg. They have tiled benches, which do not look particularly comfortable (although I didn't try them), they are however heated and have animal furs. They have spent a lot of time on custom decor especially their lighting which are mostly made from drinking glasses.e.g. large "stein" style glasses hanging upside down from the ceiling with bulbs in them and a half beer keg as a lamp shade or wine glasses fitted with bulbs as wall lights. They also use shot glasses embedded with LEDs. This photo is the "E" from the "Fire" sign, directing you down stairs.

I'll probably visit again to sample the food and grab the odd beer, but it's not in exactly a convenient location, it's not far from York place so buses home aren't too bad but there's nothing else nearby (the closest shops are Mulltrees Walk & Harvey Nichols which I don't frequent), it's also half-way down a hill which means a steep climb when you leave!
