Castlerigg Stone Circle
As Blip central asked for us to take shots on the shortest day, and tag them lovers of light, the three blippers who are in the house at the moment decided the solstice was a good time to visit Castlerigg. We decided that due to the weather dawn wasn't going to be spectacular so had a leisurely start arriving between 9 and half past.
Castlerigg is a Neolithic Stone circle near Keswick. Raised depending which source you read between 4500 and 3000 BC. We expected it to be full of visitors as it is generally difficult to get a shot with nobody showing and at the Solstice well....... In reality it was remarkably quiet. There were a group of half a dozen or so clustered round the rectangular collection of stones near the centre (well, to the East of centre really). It may have been them who left the decorated "Yule Log" tucked in against the stone. There was also a couple strolling round the edge and that was it.
Not particularly lovely light but it is an attempt.
