Warwickshire sunset on the shortest day
We went to a lovely wood which is only a couple of miles away this afternoon. There is a circular walk around almost the edge of the wood, but there are muddy through paths there as well. What we didn't realise is that the Forest Commission have been doing a lot of work recently thinning the trees out, and they have had some machinery there. The consequence is that a normally pleasant pathway was several inches deep in slushy, slidy, sucky mud, and so we slid and skidded and schlurped our way around there today, which took us twice as long as usual, and so it was almost dark by the time we returned to the car.
We had to cover the car floor in plastic as I was so muddy and didn't have any other footwear to change into.
When we arrived back home, this was the view that greeted us. This is totally untouched, and straight from the camera. It was a really amazing sunset this evening. We have only been able to see these sunsets from our driveway for the last couple of months, since the lovely old tree across the road was felled, as it was split inside and dangerous. We were sad at the time, but we now have much better views.
Before we went out this afternoon we had a little burial ceremony for Stella. We haven't found her body in the wood, and probably never will now, but we put into an envelope her previous collar and "door key" (a magnet on her collar which let her through the cat flap). The other day I had washed her little fleece blankets that she had in her bed, and I'd removed the subsequent cat hair from the tumble drier filter, so we put that into the envelope too. If you haven't had a pet, you probably think I'm mad. I expect I am, but I just wanted something of hers to bury to say goodbye really, so C dug a deep hole next to where Pickle is buried, (our other cat, who died last year), and we buried Stella's things in there.
