A day in the life of daylight
"Church". .. Tarawera style
When the email arrived from Blipcentral about creating an image on the winter solstice that "creatively captures the daylight on the day", it caught my imagination but didn't know what I would find on our longest day of the year.
But our "summer" neighbour David decided that tonight was a great night to bring the pew out for the summer and have our first "church service" of the season.
In front of our houses is a large reserve area, two years ago David mentioned that he had a pew in his shed and wondered about putting it underneath the poplar tree on the reserve.
Before long it became the meeting place during the summer holidays, a little like the corner pub but you bring your own. During the height of the holiday season there can be 30 or more people gathering late afternoon with all the children playing games on the reserve.
It provides a focus for our holiday community to meet and catch up after a day on the lake, and everyone calls it "Church".
There are very few holiday makers in residence yet, so there were only the three of us at "church" tonight, but it was such a balmy evening and so nice to soak up the sun. If you look carefully you will see my pottery wine glass (The Chalice!) at the end of the pew.
