Tension and beauty

The Sculpture Show currently on at the Modern Art Gallery includes this magical piece, made by Hepworth when her triplets were still very young and she was living in a house on the Cornish coast with a view out to a bay. It felt wrong though, that this piece should be trapped in a perspex box.

is chronologically arranged, starting with Man Ray collages and Rodin sculptures - Balzac!!! - then on through the 20th century with Hepworth, Epstein, Kolbe.............. I'd been before, and returned with a friend, but I'm afraid by the time we'd got to that Ron Mueck baby we were beginning to lose heart, and by the end - Rachel Adams, Calvin Laing - needed to return to the early galleries.
