Chartwell, home of Sir Winston Churchill
We spent a lovely evening yesterday entertaining our neighbours, who are also great friends. The conversation at one point was who was the Greatest Briton and whilst the men seemed in favour of the great engineer Brunel, I had no hesitation in nominating Churchill. Coincidentally, his home, now owned by the National Trust is close by so this morning we spent a glorious morning looking around the grounds and admiring the view across the Kent countryside to the South Downs.
He is quoted as saying that he bought the place because of the view, he also said that a day away from Chartwell was a day wasted. I couldn't agree more!
