Shongalola

SPECIES: Zinophora sabulosa
Approx 6-7cm long, 5mm wide. Colour varied,
usually black or brownish, with yellowish along
ventral-lateral surface. Common.

You could call these the common house millipede! We have at least 20 - 30 crawling up our walls on a daily basis. I do not like them even though they are quite harmless. I have still to work out what attracts them to painted walls.

Apparently they contain cyanide in very small quantities.

Quote from The Witness: =5857]The Witness
Millipedes always look clean and shiny and in fact they spend a considerable amount of time cleaning and polishing all parts of their bodies, and they have special brush-like hairs on the second and third pairs of legs which are used to clean their antennae. Apparently they conscientiously clean their gonopods after sex which gives them something in common with certain of our local notables.
