Country Road - Country Pub

A pub sign but no pub :-(

The Magpie Inn at Stonham Parva, Suffolk, has a gallow sign which stands across the road, both carriageways passing beneath.  This being East Anglia, the road is the main road between Norwich and Ipswich, the only direct route!

Sadly The Magpie is up for sale at present.  You can read more about it here : http://www.dissexpress.co.uk/news/latest-news/prominent-stonham-parva-pub-up-for-sale-1-6295395  The price has recently dropped if you are interested in a unique business opportunity ..... but perhaps this is a property for a philanthropist with a love of ancient buildings!

There is more information about this listed building here : http://www.britishlistedbuildings.co.uk/en-279389-the-magpie-inn-stonham-parva-suffolk, parts of it, including the gable end pictured, were built in the 15th century.  It is said that a live Magpie was once kept in a cage above the gallows sign.
