Toward Shore
A stormy , cold day in Argyll.
On Toward shore this afternoon the sea was slate grey and the clouds were scudding across a bruised sky.
This is the place which the great Scottish novelist Robin Jenkins called "Towellan" ( a fusing of Toward - where he lived - and Innellan) and which he made the setting for his chilling novel of educational failure , "The Changling".
Jenkins' house is within sight of the spot by the school where I took this and today I couldn't help wondering what he would have made of the abject lack of vision of Argyll & Bute Council whose leadership last night effectively wrecked the community bid to buy the neighbouring Toward Estate.
