If you buy a house in Germany, you have to go to the lawyer's office and listen to him read the contract out loud to you and the sellers.

Bet you think that would be as much fun as the dentist without anaesthetic.

You'd be right as well.

The thing is full of words like "Unbedenklichkeitsbescheinigung" and weird abbreviations like "i.S. d. § 3 I Nr. 7 BeurkG" (which I think would be a brilliant move in chess). 

And the lawyer could read this stuff out faster than I could read it.

And this was all after a full-on-buried-in-code day for me.

We pay up in March.
