Serious bit of kit
A part of a sugar beet cleaning and moving machine. The beets are fed into the bottom of the conveyor and transported to the top to be dropped into the waiting lorry. The whole contraption shakes and rattles so much that the dirt, muck and general crud that is attached to the beets falls off into a heap under the machine. Sounds primitive but is totally successful in its task. Strange to think that the crop is planted using a tractor costing hundreds of thousands of pounds, maintained, sprayed and dug up by specialist machines costing hundreds of thousands of ponds and transported in lorries that also cost huge amounts and the whole process would fail without this bit kit, held together with rust and bailing twine.
