Mourning the loss of an old friend

My neighbour decided to decimate a beautiful mature silver birch tree, because it blocked some of his light.
Silly s*d. How can people be so stupid? We have planted trees in our garden to block out some of the sunlight - I can't sit in full sun but I do like to sit outside; when it is warm enough and not raining (although I have been known to sit out in the rain.
At least I managed to get a bit of the wood, I imagine a nice bowl turned out it.
