Follow the forestry road through three gates to the far end where the road crosses the GlenHinnisdale river via a ford and you will pass this vantage point just shortly before reaching the ford.

The weather was wild and wet yesterday. The forecast wasn't much better for today but in point of fact we had a wonderful walk out here which was very bracing in the strong westerly wind.

I don't know how far we walked but I can say I have sore feet tonight.

The hills beyond the forest are the backbone of the Trotternish Peninsula. Of the two flat topped hills beyond the forest the one on the left rises to 599 metres and the one on the right to 609 metres. Out of view to the right of these will be the back of Sgurr a Mhadaidh Ruaidh (pronounced Sgurr a vatty ruey, phonetically) which means 'the hill of the red fox'. From the east side, the ridge is far more dramatic being an escarpment. One of these days I must climb up there but not after walking at such a pace as we did today.
