Useful Sheep

A section of downland near my mother's house is undergoing a managed restoration to what it was like in my youth.
Back in the 1950s & 60s I used to play there and there was around 50% grassland and 50% wood/scrub. Now there is only about 5% downland grass area left.

This is a longterm project that began about 3 years ago and will continue for at least another 12 years.

Part of that management is bringing sheep on to graze the land after a section has been cleared of scrub.

Here are some of those sheep on one of the first areas that was cleared two years ago.

[ Edit: added 14/5/12 ]
They are hardy Herdwick Cumbrian sheep - the same ones that are used in the Lake District to keep the scenery looking as it is. These sheep don't need to be sheared as they moult their winter coats each spring/summer and that is what has started in the nearer sheep.
