If Olny.
Didn't it rain? Again?
Today I met a young man who told me a long involved story about his love life. He is American, his beloved is Scottish studying in South Wales. The distance in the relationship became too much for her and she broke it off (by Skype), and went back to her old boyfriend.
The young man's heart was broken.
But his feeling were so strong that he found himself on a plane to London, and standing outside the venue looking at the poster of the concert he knew she had a ticket for.
So he went to the pub.
And met a man who sold him a ticket for the concert at cut price (since the concert started twenty minutes ago). The young man went into the venue and enjoyed the rest of the concert, telling himself quite sensibly that the chances of running into his Beloved were pretty slim in such a big venue. So he was quite surprised when he turned round and there she was.
'What are you doing here?' asked she.
'I got a ticket from a man in the pub' he replied.
Beloved walked away...
So he went back to his lodgings and in the morning got on a train to Edinburgh.
In the meantime the old/new boyfriend started to bombard the young man with contradictory messages. 'Go away, you are not welcome'. 'I'd like to meet you so I can show you what I think of you.' etc etc.
The young man read me his reply which he freely admitted was based on 'Fry and Laurie'. (Don't laugh, he really is heart broken). I listened and admired his wit and humour and clever insults. Then I told him not to send it.
I'm afraid I can't tell you the end of the story, because I put my coat on and went home.
