Killdeer At Bethany Lake
Visited Bethany Lake today, and found two new birds which I hadn't seen in the vicinity, so that was very exciting...both were shorebirds. The Killdeer was trying to protect several young ones which ended up flying to the lilypads to hide. What I first thought was a young Killdeer was actually a Spotted Sandpiper. I carefully climbed across a damn that had a somewhat unstable rock path through the water, and thankfully made it to the side of the lake which is fairly inaccessible, where I found lots of nests. After returning (yes, I made it), I took a few photos of the beautiful yellow waterlilies that are just starting to bloom. The detail on these is so interesting.
And finally we retired to the warm patio to enjoy this amazing weather, and in marched 3 families of Canada geese. I took a couple photos as they are adorable.
