A Rose by any other name would smell as sweet

My post today is to commemorate my paternal grandmother's birthday - she was born on 10th May, 1914 in Acton, East London.

My grandmother Rose passed away on 25th March 2007 aged 92, and to say she had a heart as strong as an ox is an understatement, but the last few months of her life was in short nothing of inspiring, I won't of course go into too many details, but the remaining weeks of her life I still can't fathom how she held out so long, but she must have had her reasons, (and she was very stubborn), at the very end I guess she decided it was just her time to go...

You can't tell much from the photo in which I've taken here, but I love the way she's posed, her hair all curled, and what she is wearing - she would have been about 16 years old although she looks a lot older (!) and I mean that in a good way!

I do miss her very much - as I was extremely close to her, and I have great memories of our times together. I do on occasions think of her, but never dwell that she's not here with me, as she led a very long and fulfilling life, and well, I'm sure she's quite happy wherever she may be.

On either side sits two favourite photographs of my grandfather - he looks so dapper!

So, Nan wherever you are - I hope you're smiling down on us all (and wondering when am I ever going to have this baby)...;) - it was always a long-standing joke between me and her growing up, that she would 'hang around' as she put it, to see me get married and have a child and I used to say 'that's way too much pressure', but true to her word she was at my wedding in 2004 and held The Kid a year later in 2005 - she got her wish and she was always grateful for those moments in her life. Love her!
