Like so many cemetries in the 18th and 19th century Ballynure had to deal with the ghoulish trade of 'Bodysnatchers' were newly buried corpes were stolen from graves to be sold for medical study. This 'Fleshing house' was used to guard corpses from the attention of Bodysnatchers until decay had set in and they were no longer of use for experimentation or study. My daughters get the creeps everytime we pass it!
