The Edge of the Wold

Fretting

This was taken just before the sun broke through the cloud close to the horizon. Living on the western side of the country, sunsets over water are much more frequent than sunrises. For a month or so either side of the longest day, the morning sky reflects in the Kent estuary. The channel has moved so much from last year, that it is only this top end of the estuary where there is water at the best angle to pick up the colours. I think it will be another week or two before the sun itself reflects in an easily accessible place.

And why was I here at 0515 this morning? I was fretting. I hadn't seen Bob the Cat since about 11 in the evening, and I was worried for him. I got dressed and searched the roads around the house, but I found no sign (encouraging in some ways). Then knowing I wouldn't be able to sleep when he was missing, I headed down to the estuary watching the lightening sky and took this photograph.

I headed home and there was still no sign. I went into the bedroom and there he was curled up on the bed, snuggled into Wifie. Relief. It seems there is a new cat on the block, and Bob is asserting his territorial rights. This afternoon when I came home, he was still sleeping off a tough night on duty. I found a cat's claw embedded in the fur on top of his head. Poor Bob, he's getting a bit too old for that sort of thing.

I was on time for my dental appointment. Good news for both the teeth and the wallet, no work needed.
