Stainrigg
Stainrigg, (Stoneridge House), has been in existence since at least the seventeenth century. The present house has been extensively remodelled and it is not clear how much of the older fabric of the building survives.
The original Stainrigg was a three-storeyed harled structure, built along simple classical lines. A date panel on the north-east wall records the date of construction as 1631. In 1880, the architects Kinnear and Peddie carried out extensive work, which gave the house a very different, Scots Baronial, appearance.
I pass this every day on my way to my wee school - but today the ponies were out snoozing, which was rather lovely.
It was also a sunny and blue sky day - and a late end to the day with another parent's evening. Too tired to walk or cycle!!
