Evening Over The Roofs or Remains of Roots?

This is an old field. The tilled soil has been removed. I thought these could be tunnels of some insects. The scenery looked very impressive, like an abandoned "city". But now I think these tunnels were once filled with the roots of young birches. The soil is acid and difficult to grow anything. On the corner, there are also some droppings of a black grouse.
