High contrast sunlight

A flower -- or possibly a reasonably attractive weed, I don't understand gardening -- in my garden this morning. Unlike yesterday's shot this is an OOC (out-of-camera) JPEG, given only a crop and slight curves adjustment.

If I had plans to work on an image like this, the extreme contrast would make it a prime candidate for a Contrast Layer Mask (explained at the Luminous Landscape website, among other places). The weather forecast tomorrow is rather like today's, so perhaps I will be able to take a similar shot (of a weed) and demonstrate the results of the mask.
