A nice surprise
I woke up this morning at the bottom of the bed, crying and with scratched arms. What a horrible nightmare I was having.
The sad mood continued all morning. I did some cleaning and pulled myself together and went to school. When I went to lunch one of my colleagues invited me on a trip. Suddenly I had something to distract me and things looked a little brighter.
I was going with a group of our students and group from Brussels who are on an exchange programme. One of the teachers was from Scotland who was very interesting and we spent the afternoon chatting. Their students were also great and got on very well with ours. It was nice to have a whole afternoon of English.
We went to Pecs and an ex pupil gave us a tour of the city. I do love Pecs and it was at its finest in the sunshine which was glorious after yesterday's rain. In our free time we popped to a shop and I got a present for Mum. Then we had an ice cream in Szechenyi Square. On our way to a friend's house we walked past the Nador hotel which although has had its facade renovated the inside is just a bare shell. Today the windows were open and I could see inside for the first time and this was my second nice surprise of the day. The inside is being used as a gallery and I love the contrast between the art and the concrete. I think this is a great way to use the space of this iconic building until hopefully one day it is restored to its former glory.
I have never been to my friend's house before and I'm definitely jealous. It is something that I find happens quite often over here, from the outside it's not much and then you go in. We walked through the building which has been converted into flats and out the back door. We entered a beautiful courtyard garden which my friends house leads onto. It reminded me of the Secret Garden, so green and peaceful. It is hard to believe a busy city street was just few metres away.
We then went to the Zsolnay cultural quarter where we visited the hands on science exhibition. The students and teachers alike enjoyed playing with all the bits.
It was great to see that these visitors loved Pecs and were surprised by what they saw.
Spending the evening alone at home trying to keep my improved mood.
