Lambert Castle
Catholina Lambert originally emigrated to the US from England and became a wealthy silk merchant. He built this Castle in 1892 on top of what is now known as Garret Mountain near Paterson, NJ
As a boy in England, Lambert often passed the castles of Yorkshire and Warwickshire on his to work in the cotton mills.
It is estimated that the castle cost one half million dollars to build. This at a time when the average wage was $1 a day for 10 hours or more of hard labor. In 1896, the 70-foot observation tower was constructed on the crest of the cliff.
While it pales in comparison to the castles of Europe, I thought it was interesting that it has survived and is now open as a museum.
Also pictured here are the grounds surrounding the "castle".
