Oskars Kalpaks
Or a monument in his memory. Apparently he is regarded as the first Commander in Chief of Latvian Armed Forces. First World War time, fighting to keep Latvia independent, glorious death, etc.
My day today involved walking across the central park of Riga from one hotel to another to a conference and back. So photo opportunities were limited. The evening light was falling as I crossed back to my hotel room and at least lit up the monument on which some Latvian youths were skateboarding.
