The Axe Valley
This afternoon I traveled down into the valley of the River Axe over Musbury Castle and down through the village of Musbury passing flower strewn hedges
The floods of last week had gone and this mornings bright weather had been replaced by clouds and dismal skies. A river with a long history of a Roman port at Axmouth from where a branch of the Fossway began, and a river crossing of the same period at Axminster, carrying the roman road to Exeter (Isca). This road was rediscovered a few years back when the new Axminster By-pass was being built. Just a few feet below the surface was a 22 ft wide cambered highway still as sound as when it had been built.
No long views down to the sea today, this will have to wait for better weather
