Just for the fun of it

White Peaks

Today was a walking in the Peaks day, but we decided to avoid the hotspots because of the bank holiday weekend and stayed to high ground.

We were not sure what effect the very wet weather that we have had recently has had in the dales, probably not a lot, but wet limestone that has been polished with many footsteps is extremely slippery.

The Peak district is split into roughly two areas, the north is predominantly gritstone and called the dark peaks, and the south mainly limestone and hence the name the white peaks.

It was a glorious day wrapped up with a cream tea at Ilam. After all the wet weekends we have had it was nice to get out walking again.
