Mausoleo di Galla Placidia, Ravenna, Italy

Took the train to Ravenna today to see the Basilicas and the mosaics. Wow, great day. Decided to include the mausoleum as my entry. Tiny space, little room to move, no tripod and light is coming in through thin sheets of alabaster rather than glass. However, the mosaics and especially the gold just take your breath away, when you think they were made in 452AD. Will put photographs of other Basilicas and mosaics in Blipfolio.
Took the local train, only half an hour slower than express and it went through the national park. Scenery was spectacular. 9 Euros, to cross Italy by train, Scotrail could learn something from that!
