Memory

Sunday morning brunch at Cracker Barrel would not be complete without attempting to leave just one peg on this game.

Several years ago, my husband wrote a computer program to solve this game. He intended that I would memorize the solution to it, so I would amaze onlookers. I never memorized the solution because somehow it feels like cheating.

I offer you two hints which the computer program revealed. One: It doesn't matter which hole you leave empty; the game is winnable regardless. Two: The longest possible sequence of jumps (one peg jumping) is 5.
