My Year

By Dunworkin

Shh!...Don't all look at Once.

Lovely sunny morning so went for a walk.

These bullocks have been let out from their winter quarters and were very inquisitive as we passed.

You will notice they each have two yellow ear tags. One has a long number, which is the beast's passport number. This stays with it through life and is all to do with traceability in the case of disease, etc. and the integrity of the meat we all buy.

The other tag has a shorter number which is the herd number. This is particular to each farm and allows the farmer to monitor the herd.
