The Ferry man
We took the ferry across the Kyle of Durness to get the mini bus to Cape Wrath on another bright and clear skied day.
Our ferry man informed us he wasn't a Scot he was a Highlander and not to touch his dog as he was 'strange'! He seemed to know where he was going anyway! The ferry crosses a small channel that remains navigable with a small boat even when the tide is out as it is fed by the river.
We took a small minibus the 11 miles to the north western most point of the British Isles. There are only 4 buildings on the Cape and the only one inhabited is the cafe at the lighthouse, providing refreshments 24 hours a day. You can walk from Sandwood Bay (which we could see in the distance) although there isn't really a path and by prior arrangement you can be met by the mini bus. Amazing views and an interesting trip including the military use of this area. It is used by international forces for military exercises and Garvie island is the most bombed piece of rock in the world!
