Evening tryst at the abbey
Quick blip en route to Waitrose (a 2 minute walk from this spot).
It's not quite as romantic as it sounds - but I still like it! The ruins are not actually those of Abingdon Abbey - although many people think they are. The happy - or perhaps unhappy - couple are actually in 'Trendell's Folly', an artificial ruin of Abingdon Abbey erected in the 1920s.
It's still a lovely spot though and apparently some of the stones and two of the window heads are 15th century salvaged remains of the original abbey.
I cycled past there again about an hour and a half later, en route to a local restaurant for our regular Friday evening out, and they were no longer there. I'm not surprised though: it's absolutely freezing in Oxfordshire tonight. I cannot remember such a cold month of May.
