Only child

This fuzzy little mallard duckling was keeping solo company with his mama as I walked along the bog trail today. It is unusual to see mallards with a single chick, so we theorize that predators have been at work. I will be posting a few more photos of them (and the solitary sandpiper from two days ago) on my blog.
