perpetual flame

A cake for my flame.
It's his birthday today. Sixteen years ago today we woke up in my little tent in a wild camp spot in Assynt on our first joint camping weekend (two months after we'd got together). I'd smuggled a home made lemon cake (and candles) and managed to get the candles lit while he was out of the tent to surprise him.

We climbed Suilven that day
The cake was eaten
Adventures were had
Wedding bells chimed
House moves came and went
Two became four.....

Today the lemon cake didn't rise - mis-read the recipe. Never mind, it tasted good. I scrabbled round in the cupboard for candles and inadvertently put on several of those ones that don't blow out, or blow out then re-light. So the boys had fun blowing candle ash all over the surface of the flat cake...
